Kuhn is joined by Joe Lovano on tenor saxophone, David Finck on bass, and Joey Baron on drums. This is Kuhn's most exciting album in several years. In it he departs from his usual trio setting. Lovano is brilliant in his solos. Joey Baron honors Elvin Jones on drums, not by imitating him but by playing with his spirit. This group pays tribute to Coltrane every year on his birthday at a club in New York. It is good to have this performance on CD for all to hear.(Wayne Zade)
